God Centered…family
Last October I met Tricia Goyer, an amazing godly women. She inspired me not only with her writing resume (30+ books), but with her authentic faith and ministry to teen moms (read more here about her redemptive story).
As a testimony to her “awesomeness”, the week after meeting Tricia she started a private Facebook group for God Writer Moms. In that space she provides encouragement on how to include children in the writing process, stay balanced, and seek God first. From that group she invited me to help launch her new book, Lead Your Family Like Jesus: Powerful Parenting Principles from the Creator of Families
, which she co-authored with Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges.I recently shared my friend Lara Williams’ book with you, “To Walk or Stay”…a book which helps women seek God.
This book helps families seek God.
Based on leadership principles and discipleship techniques, ‘Lead Your Family Like Jesus’ gives parents the tools to intentional lead their home for God’s glory. I don’t know about you but most of the parenting books in our home have been read by “moi”. However, this is one parenting book I could see Bruce enjoying too (particularly the chapters on the importance of vision).
Honestly I could sit and chat with you for about an hour about this book. I decided to do a video book review instead. “They” (aka, the blogger gurus) tell me it’s best to keep a video under 3 minutes. So after many, many “takes”…this was the result:
It’s truly amazing how closely this book lines up with what I write about here: the dangers of pride & fear in parenting…casting a vision for your children…daily meeting with God through spiritual disciplines.
Yet, so many times I read a chapter or a few pages from this book and the words stuck with me for the next few days, helping me focus my parenting on what God desires:
- Keeping an eternal perspective instead of a temporary one.
- Saying “yes” to the best & no to the rest.
- Recognizing the difference between an accident and misconduct.
- Inspiring obedience–not rebellion
*Just FYI…the authors frequently use the Message translation of the Bible…not a deal breaker for me, but may be for some of you.
Honestly, this book will help young families get off on the right foot in their parenting journey. Using the ideas and activities parents can set their hearts in the right position, identify their family values and goals, establish healthy relationships with their children and begin to seek daily conversations with God.

Excellent review! I love how you organized it with the four pictures. I will go out and get this book.
thanks Erin! I hope it truly will help your family. I’m pretty picky about what books I recommend on this blog. This one definitely lines up with my thoughts on parenting. 😉
Looks like a good book! You did a great job with your review, Heather!
It really is. I especially like the focus on looking how Jesus led his disciples when we consider leading our children…good stuff. (thanks for your sweet encouragement!)
Sounds like a great resource to families. You’re right, there’s not a lot of books, or other resources in general, that are geared to guys on topics like these.
