authors note: make sure you go back and read some of the comments to the last post. there are some great summer fun activities that were shared.

A friend of mine had this idea and I think it is a great one…to have a verse of the month (maybe every week if we are learning them quickly) that we memorize with our children. Hopefully this blog community can serve as some sort of accountability in that process. Also you may need some ideas of scriptures to start teaching your children.

Make sure you read the page on my blog titled “His Word” to get tips on how to memorize scripture with your children. Having scripture hidden in your heart is the best. Hearing your children quote scripture is incredible! I have also found that if I have scripture memorized that is applicable to a particular training “opporunity” it helps me not just lecture but allow God to speak in the situation.

Drum roll please….The verse I thought we could start with is:

“I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me.” Philippians 4:13

{If your children already have that one memorized try this one: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5}

Activities:

1) Philippians 4:13 tells us that God gives us strength. Blow up small balloons and put them in your arm sleeves to resemble big muscle arms.

2) Have them say the verse first then pick up a couch cushion and launch it across the room. You could even do this with the balloons in your sleeves.

Discussion:

Ask them what things they would like to do but need help doing.  Help them dream big about what they would like to do with the gifts God has given them to help others and glorify God. Focus on the fact that the strength comes from God (you may even get into a trinity conversation since the verse says “Christ”).

Hand motions:

Move your arms wide when you say “all things”. Point to the sky when you say “Christ”. Then make big arm muscles when you say “give me strength”.

  What are some ideas you have for memorizing Philippians 4:13?
