Do you like how I keep changing the title of this feature? Fun Favorites Friday…Fun Friday…Few of my favorites Friday…you get the idea. I feel like breaking out in song, “raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens… these are a few of my favorite things”
1. Father’s day gift
One of my favorites from the past week was the present the boys and I made for my husband for Father’s Day. I saw this idea in my MOPS magazine. Since my husband’s office needs some wall art and needs pics of us, I thought this was the perfect gift.
We chose red and grey paint for the canvas b/c those are his company’s colors. I also liked the deeper square canvas…a little more modern-looking. I printed off all the pictures at the Kodak Gallery print kiosk at Target and printed them all in sepia tones (if I could re-do it I would have chosen black&white). I attached the pictures to the canvas with glue and adhesive black picture corners to fancy it up.
2. Prayer Spiral by TruthReminders
This favorite would have been more useful if I would have shared it a month ago so you could have ordered one for your fathers. This is what I bought my husband, my dad and my father-in-law last year for father’s day. It’s a personalized desktop prayer spiral by Truth Reminders with prayers and passages of truth from God’s Word. It has pictures of whomever you want to pray for and inserts their name into the prayer. You can choose up to 6 different people to add. The price varies from $16 to $41 each based on number of people included in the spiral and whether black/white or color.
The boys love when Bruce prays their “special prayers” over them each morning before he goes to work. I love how the prayers integrate scripture, so the boys are learning God’s word through the repetition. This morning prayer time is one of my favorite ways Bruce guides my boys in the “way they should go.”
3. Heart Hide & Seek
Here’s an idea for something to do inside with your kiddos when it’s too hot to be outside. My oldest son brought these hearts home from Sunday School. He and my middle son took turns hiding them around the playroom and we would go look for them.
4. Baby powder
During the summer (ok all year), I don’t always shower each morning. Particularly with all the swimming we are doing, it doesn’t seem worth it to wash and blow dry my hair every day. If you swim then shower that afternoon your hair may be a little greasy that next morning, but you may not want to re-shower. My solution…
I just sprinkle some baby powder onto my roots and then rub it in, comb it through, and shake my hair out and voila! No more greasy hair and I smell like a yummy newborn babe! (warning: works best for lighter hair color…there are products available by Bumble & Bumble for those with dark hair)
5. Lunchables with fruit
Texas summers mean 90 to 100 degree weather every day. Therefore, most days we go to a pool…friend’s pool, neighborhood pool, Elks lodge pool. I like to go in the morning, staying for lunch and wearing them out for good naps. I’m fine packing sandwiches and some fruit but sometimes we just need to get out of the house and get going. For those days I love these lunchables with fruit. I know they are not super healthy but it could always be worse.
6. Swim dress
I absolutely love this last one. I debated whether I should post a pic of me in the swimdress…I love it that much. But just couldn’t bring myself to do it. So here is a supermodel showing it off. It’s a swim dress from Lands End. I. Love. It!
It’s one complete piece…full one piece swimsuit attached to the dress on top. In the past I have bought a tankini top and a skirt. I feel the swim dress covers the same portion of my body that the tankini/skirt did but the look is more uniform. This suit is also more comfortable b/c I’m not having to keep tugging on the bottom hem of the tankini top to keep my post-baby belly from flopping out. Since I bought my swimdress I’ve seen a lot of other cute swim dress options. Also, I just saw that Macy is having a big 4th of July sale and will have 50% off their swim dresses. Check em out!
Swim dress!?!?!? Brilliant. This is one of those things you see and think ‘why didn’t i invent that’.
Love the wall art.. Really good idea! And the swim dress!
i love the prayer spiral. will be getting that as a late father’s day present. also, i got a swimdress at lands end two years ago and i still love it, even though they discontinued the style. lands end…i used to think it was for old people….now i’m old.
I love the prayer spiral too, can’t wait for my kids to be old enough for that one! And definitely going to check out Macy’s this weekend for post-baby swimsuit. If no luck, there – Land’s End!
