The tag line for my blog is “relentlessly replacing ‘me’ with ‘He'”. As I’ve said before it’s impossible on our own abilities to achieve complete selflessness. Since the Fall in the garden we are plagued with selfishness. The only completely selfless person, Jesus, died for us so we could receive the gift of grace and opportunity of humility through the Holy Spirit’s empowering.
My goal through this blog is to help remind us (myself included) to choose humility. to choose to place God center. to remove our desires for His.
But what are some practical steps to being a “God-centered mom”?
Are you ready?
Here is your first step: go to SLEEP!
“The benefits of sleep are obvious. As we sleep, strength is restored, the mind is cleared, and we’re prepared to serve God another day…God could have created us without a need for sleep…Each night, as I confront my need again for sleep, I’m reminded that I’m a dependent creature. I am not self-sufficient. I am not the Creator. There is only One who ‘will neither slumber no sleep’ (Ps 121:4), and I am not that One.” (C.J. Mahaney, “Humility: True Greatness”)
I am NOT the Creator. you are NOT the Creator {let that sink in}. you are the created. you need rest. sleep demonstrates your dependence on Him. your trust that He has it under control. more sleep, less effort. more rest, less striving. more of Him, less of you.
“Sleep is a picture and a parable of what it means to be a Christian. Your sleep tonight will be a small but real act of faith. You’ll lay your full weight on a bed, trusting this structure to support you. You can fully relax, because no effort at supporting yourself is required; something else is holding you up. And in the same way, throughout the night as you sleep, Someone else is sustaining you. This is a picture of what it’s like to belong to Christ.” (C.J. Mahaney)
Humbly receive the gift of sleep. The picture of His perfect provision. His capable hands. and rest…
(for you pregnant moms and moms of newborns, when your children/babies are sleeping during the day, put aside your to-do list. accept a messier home. and go take a nap! don’t feel guilty. it’s your act of humility today. take comfort in your reliance on Him and not your efforts.)
