A man predicted he would come. 700 years earlier. 700 years before He was born.

Isaiah (9:6) described a “King” but unlike any earthly king we have known. A King of kings.

This king would comfort while possessing power. To rule forever with peace. His kingdom would not come the first time he put his feet on this earth, but when he returned a second time. A kingdom we are still anxiously waiting for.

As I read the words predicting the One who would bring light to a dark world, the titles strike me differently this time. Less familiar. They mean more. I stop and soak in each one.

WONDERFUL COUNSELOR

I could use a good counselor right about now. One who has a purpose for me. A bigger plan.

MIGHTY GOD

I’m feeling weak and incapable of parenting these 3 (almost 4) boys. I would love to have Someone who is strong & powerful to help me in this overwhelming task.

EVERLASTING FATHER

I’m a daddy’s girl. To sit in my Father’s lap. To feel his warm embrace. To know His unconditional love…eternally.

PRINCE OF PEACE

As the hormones rage during the end of this pregnancy and the stress of the holidays mounts, this is the one that stands out most. One who will give me peace that passes all understanding.

Which title resonates with you most? Which aspect of the baby who will be King, do you need dwell on today? Take a few minutes right now and repeat one of Christ’s “titles” to yourself. Keep it at the forefront of your mind. Remember the King of all kings is on your side!

Here is a way we can make Isaiah 9:6 come alive for other children this Christmas…

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
